GCrypt version 0.3 ================== GCrypt is a Perl interface to the gcrypt library of cryptographic functions. Symmetric encryption and decryption is complete (supporting most popular ciphers: AES/Rijndael, Twofish, Triple DES, ...). Digests and assymmetric cryptography are on the TODO. * Why this module? There are a number of Perl modules available that provide some crypto functions. A few do it fully in Perl, others rely on their own C code, still others use a library. Some implement only one algorithm, and there are also very comprehensive Perl libraries out there. My main motivation was that I already had gcrypt on my computer -- why use still another crypto implementation when I can just share this one. Many people will be in a similar situation. If you have GNOME installed you probably also have gcrypt. I also partly wrote a interface to the crypto functions in OpenSSL (which is even more widespread), but this library's license was not compatible with the one in my project. * Usage example my $cipher = new GCrypt::Cipher('aes', 'cbc'); $cipher->setkey($key); $ciphertext = $cipher->encrypt($plaintext); ### ... or, on the other end: $plaintext = $cipher->decrypt($ciphertext); * Installation Standard. Either use CPAN.pm or do by hand: perl Makefile.PL make make test make install * Dependencies For obvious reasons the gcrypt library is needed.
