I'm using gcc 1.40 on a SS2 running sunos4.1.1B In tex/texd.h, poolname was defined as: #define poolname " on line 28. It looks like it should be a double quote. In tex/itex.c, it used initialize_regmem. Where can I find. I don't think the compiler knows where either. I'd apppreciate any help. I have had a few private inquiries about getting these files (some who had no ftp access, others who had trouble getting ftp access). I have installed the basic files for access on FILESERV, and they are available for anonymous ftp retrieval from Niord.SHSU.edu [192.92.115.8]. I am attaching the main ArabTeX description file which has retrieval instructions, as well as the file lists for the related METAFONT sources required and the style files. They are designed to work in concert with two other packages available on FILESERV, ArabTeX_STYLE (the style files used by ArabTeX), and ArabTeX_MF (the METAFONT sources to produce the NASH10 fonts used by ArabTeX). For sites with ftp access, the pre-built NASH10 fonts (pk and tfm files) are available from Niord.SHSU.edu [192.92.115.8] in the directory [.ARABTEX.NASH10]. The home ftp site for this package is ifi.informatik.uni-stuttgart.de [129.69.211.1]. You may retrieve the entire package of 5 files by including the command: SENDME ArabTeX in the body of a mail message to to FILESERV@SHSU.BITNET (FILESERV@SHSU.edu). A complete distribution of this version of ArabTeX requires all of the files in the ArabTeX and ArabTeX_STYLE packages, as well as either the ArabTeX_MF files or the prebuilt fonts. If, for some reason, you should only need one of these files, say ArabTeX.TEX, use the command: SENDME ArabTeX.TEX in your MAIL message to FILESERV. Keywords: TeX 3.0, 8-bit catcode Here is a simple TeX 3.0 .tex file that I can successfully run TeX 3.0 on on a Mac or SGI, but not on a MIPS or SparcStation: \catcode128=13 \def \200{ha!} \200 \end where "\200" means the 8-bit character with that octal code. When it runs, I get This is TeX, C Version 3.0 (test.tex [1] ) Output written on test.dvi (1 page, 212 bytes). Transcript written on test.log. When it doesn't, I get This is TeX, C Version 3.0 (test.tex ! Missing control sequence inserted. \inaccessible { l.2 \def { ha!} ? It seems that the \catcode command is sometimes ignored. I don't normally subscribe to TeXhax, so please answer by e-mail (and excuse my etiquette). If anybody cares, I'll summarize to this digest. This is not a LaTeX or TeX problem, though. First you need to get a different bold font. Fonts are not created by TeX, but by METAFONT. TeX just uses bitmap fonts created by METAFONT. I don't have any idea where you can find a different bold font, unless you're trying to print to a PostScript printer, in which case you may be able to use PostScript fonts. Below is the result of a DIRECTORY NEWSLETTER command sent to FILESERV@SHSU.BITNET (FILESERV@SHSU.edu). Thanks are extended to Hunter for contributing these files. George ============================================================================== NEWSLETTER ---------- The NEWSLETTER package includes Hunter Goatley's macros to produce newsletters in plain TeX. Most of the macros are original, but some came from _The TeXbook_ and other sources; most of these have been either rewritten or modified. The format is for plain TeX, and supports usual newsletter designs, such as multiple columns (1--6 columns), switching columns on the same page, and including figures. Additionally, the package includes a file which converts "text to be quoted" into ``text to be quoted'' (QUOTE.TEX) and a file which automatically makes the italic correction (\/) when switching among fonts (ITALIC.TEX). Hunter has also established a discussion list for for support and exchange by users of this package, NEWSLETR@WKUVX1.BITNET. Instructions for subscribing to this list are included in the file AAAREAD.ME. You may retrieve the entire package of 9 files by including the command: SENDME NEWSLETTER in the body of a mail message to FILESERV@SHSU.BITNET (FILESERV@SHSU.edu). A complete distribution of this version of NEWSLETTER requires all 9 files in this package, so this command is suggested. If, for some reason, you should only need one of these files, say NEWSLETTER.QUOTE_TEX, include the command: SENDME NEWSLETTER.QUOTE_TEX in your MAIL message to FILESERV.
