This is the version 1.2 of 'xecyr' package which is intended to help with
Russian and other Cyrillic-based languages in Babel / polyglossia and
XeLaTeX / LuaLaTeX.

This work may be distributed and/or modified under the conditions of the
LaTeX Project Public License, either version 1.3 of this license or (at
your option) any later  version. The latest version of this license is in
http://www.latex-project.org/lppl.txt and version 1.3 or later is part of
all distributions of LaTeX version 2005/12/01 or later.

Now with a great pleasure I must announce that recent development of two
most used Unicode-aware TeX engines (XeTeX and LuaTeX) came to the point
where xecyr is not needed anymore. As you will see, all xecyr examples
work now without xecyr (only slight modifification was typically
required). All these examples work with XeLaTeX and almost all (except
"xecyr-ex7-ru-x.tex") with LuaLaTeX. It is now possible to replace xecyr
with dummy package or even remove it, but I still prefer to keep xecyr.
There are many documents which depend on it. Old and new examples are
also quite useful, especially for Russian typesetting.
